Two men sentenced in Brunei customs offence case


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) announced the outcome of a customs offence case involving Chinese nationals, Ding Yanzhong, 38, and Zheng Chaohui, 29.

The incident occurred on May 17, 2026, at 10.10pm at the vehicle arrival lane, Labu Control Post, Temburong, during which the arrest was carried out by Customs Inspection Officers at Labu Control Post.

The two men were discovered to have 192 cans of assorted alcoholic beverages without lawful authorisation and 14 cigarettes without lawful authorisation.

Both men appeared before Magistrate Syaffina binti Shahif before the Temburong Magistrate’s Court yesterday and were charged under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006.

Following the court proceedings, Ding Yanzhong was ordered to pay a total fine of BND10,000 or serve 10 months’ imprisonment if the full amount is not paid, while Zheng Chaohui was ordered to pay a total fine of BND5,000 or serve five months’ imprisonment if the fine is not fully paid.

The confiscated items, including the assorted alcoholic beverages and cigarettes, were ordered forfeited to the government for disposal. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
