PHNOM PENH: Cambodia saw a decline in drug-related arrests but a notable increase in narcotics seizures during the first half of 2026, according to an Anti-Drug Department (ADP) report released on Wednesday (July 1).
The report said that authorities apprehended 12,581 drug suspects between January and June this year, down 1.15 per cent from 12,728 during the same period last year.
"Some 2.38 tonnes of illicit drugs and 12.7kg of dry cannabis were confiscated from those suspects' possession from January 1 to June 30, 2026," the report said.
Seized narcotics in the first half of this year rose compared to the 1.46 tonnes of illicit drugs and 366kg of dry cannabis confiscated during the same period last year, the report added.
Most of the confiscated narcotics were ketamine, ecstasy, heroin, crystal meth, methamphetamine pills, cocaine, and cathinone.
The country has no death penalty for drug trafficking. However, trafficking over 80gm of illicit drugs can be imprisoned for life. - Xinhua
