HYDERABAD, (India): (Bernama) United States (US) President Donald Trump has thanked the Indian city of Hyderabad for naming a road after him.
"The new Donald Trump Avenue in Hyderabad, India - The first US President to ever be honoured in this way. Thank you!” Trump wrote in a social media post on Friday (June 26).
The road adjoining the US Consulate in the Telangana state capital was on June 23 renamed "Donald Trump Avenue" during an event marking the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence.
A plaque was unveiled by deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor.
A significant portion of the US Indian community originally hails from Hyderabad and the wider Telugu region that includes Andhra Pradesh state.
Many US corporations such as Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Google, AT&T, and Wells Fargo have a presence in Hyderabad as the city has emerged as a hub for the global capability centres (GCCs) of foreign firms. - Bernama
