JAKARTA: (Bernama) Indonesia on Tuesday (June 23) inaugurated 1,151 kilometres of newly completed regional roads across 37 provinces, in a move aimed at improving connectivity, lowering logistics costs, and supporting economic growth nationwide.

President Prabowo Subianto said that road infrastructure plays a strategic role in Indonesia, an archipelagic nation with vast territory and diverse geographical conditions.

He stressed that the government is determined to ensure no region is left behind due to limited access to infrastructure.

"Therefore, the development of regional roads will continue to be encouraged as part of efforts to deliver equitable development to all corners of the country.

"We are determined that no region should be left behind simply because of limited access. We must reduce logistics costs for all our people and for our economy,” he said.

Prabowo made the remarks, which were broadcast live on YouTube, at an officiation ceremony of the Kedungdung-Bringkoning road section, a 1.5-kilometre stretch in Sampang, East Java,

The road was officiated simultaneously with other completed projects under the 2025 Regional Roads (IJD) programme which spans 37 provinces nationwide.

Looking ahead, Prabowo said the government would continue increasing support for infrastructure development across the country, including at the village level, in the years to come.

He also called on regional governments to maintain and make full use of the infrastructure, while emphasising the importance of preserving construction quality and ensuring accountability in the use of public funds. - Bernama
