BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei Darussalam has been recognised as an Affiliate Member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities, marking a significant step in the country’s efforts to promote healthy ageing and support older persons.
The Health Ministry, through its Health Promotion Centre (HPC), said the recognition reinforces Brunei’s commitment to creating an inclusive, safe and supportive environment that enhances the well-being and quality of life of senior citizens.
Representing Brunei at the international level, Senior Health Officer at the Health Promotion Centre Dayang Siti Munawwarah Awang Tarif attended the 3rd World Congress of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities in Donostia/San Sebastián, Spain.
During the congress, she delivered a keynote presentation titled “Advancing the Age-Friendly Movement: Brunei Darussalam’s Commitment.”
The presentation highlighted the country’s ongoing initiatives, achievements and long-term vision in advancing the age-friendly agenda through a comprehensive and integrated approach.
According to the ministry, the recognition and participation in the global congress reflect Brunei’s continued efforts to strengthen community support systems and expand international collaboration in the field of healthy ageing.
The ministry added that the milestone supports the nation’s goal of ensuring older persons remain empowered, valued and well-supported within a sustainable public health ecosystem.
The WHO Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities brings together cities, communities and organisations worldwide that are committed to improving the lives of older people by promoting healthy, active and inclusive ageing. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
