BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (Shena) has issued compound fines to three construction worksites following inspections that found non-compliance with workplace first-aid requirements.

In separate enforcement actions, Shena issued BND500 compound fines to the occupiers of construction worksites in Tungku Highway, Bandar Seri Begawan; Kampong Kiulap, Bandar Seri Begawan; and Kampong Bukit Panggal, Mukim Keriam, Tutong. All fines have since been settled in full.

The inspections found failures to comply with requirements under the Workplace Safety and Health (First-Aid) Regulations.

At the Tungku Highway and Kampong Kiulap worksites, the non-compliance involved Regulation 5 on First-Aiders, while the inspection at the Kampong Bukit Panggal worksite found a breach of Regulation 4 on the Provision of First-Aid Boxes.

Following the inspections, the occupiers carried out the necessary corrective measures to address the identified non-compliances.

Shena reminded all parties that compliance with the Workplace Safety and Health Act, Cap 277, and its subsidiary regulations is mandatory at all times.

Any occupier who fails to comply with the Workplace Safety and Health (First-Aid) Regulations commits an offence and is liable, upon conviction, to a fine not exceeding BND5,000.

Shena said it remains committed to upholding safety, health and environmental compliance and will continue conducting inspections and taking appropriate enforcement action to safeguard workers, the public and the environment. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
