BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): The Public Works Department (JKR) in Brunei has received complaints on water disruption at several locations in the Brunei-Muara District since Wednesday (May 27), and is currently carrying out investigation works to find out the cause of water disruption.

According to JKR, the affected areas include areas under Berakas Tank Reservoir, namely Berakas Camp, STKRJ Lambak Kiri, Kampong Lambak Kiri, parts of Jalan Pasir Berakas, Jalan Utama Berakas and Jalan Terunjing Baru, Lambak Kanan Industrial Area and surrounding areas; areas under Meragang Tank Reservoir of Jalan Wasai Limuru and Jalan Kemangsi, Jalan Wasai Limuru Utara, Jalan Kemangsi Selatan, Jalan Kemangsi Timur, Perumahan Negara Meragang, Kampong Meragang, parts of Jalan Kapok Kanan and Kiri in Kampong Kapok and surrounding areas; and areas under Sultan Flight Tank Reservoir comprising Royal Brunei Air Force Base, His Majesty the Sultan’s Flight Office and surrounding areas.

JKR has taken necessary action to assist some of the affected areas. The public affected under the Berakas Tank Reservoir Catchment Area can collect water at the blue tanks located at Kampong Lambak Mosque, Jalan Pasir Berakas, while those affected under Meragang Tank Reservoir Catchment Area can collect water at the blue tanks at Az-Zakireen Mosque Meragang and Taman Riadah PN Kampong Meragang.

According to JKR, the disruption affected catchment tank areas linked to Meragang Tank, Berakas Tank and Sultan Flight Tank. The issue stemmed from emergency repair works carried out at KM104.7 along the Muara-Tutong Highway, which were completed at 3.42pm on May 27.

The department said restoration efforts are currently underway in the affected areas and water supply is expected to recover gradually. However, it noted that full recovery may take longer, especially for areas located on higher ground.

JKR advised the public to use water prudently during the recovery period. Residents in affected areas may obtain water from blue water tanks placed at several locations.

Households using water filtration systems are also advised to flush their systems before using the water supply. – James Kon - Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network
