YANGON: Myanmar police seized stimulant tablets worth about Ks 450 million (US$214,286) in Magway and raw opium worth more than Ks 20 million in Pyigyidagun, according to the Myanmar Police Force.
A joint anti-narcotics task force acting on a tip-off stopped and searched a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado near Kanpya Village in Magway Township at around 6:30 pm on May 24.
The vehicle was driven by Han Min Ko, also known as Min Min, 48, from Bo Min Yaung Ward in Tatkon Township.
During the search, police confiscated 300,000 stimulant tablets, estimated to be worth about Ks 450 million based on the local market price of Ks 1,500 per tablet.
Han Min Ko (aka Min Min) has been charged under Myanmar’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, police said.
In a separate case, police also seized raw opium worth more than Ks 20 million in Pyigyidagun Township, Mandalay Region.
At around 6:30 pm on May 24, a joint anti-drug squad searched a man identified as Nyi Nyi Waing, 39, from Shwelaungnyunt Ward in Aungmyaythazan Township, who came to collect parcels delivered by a mini Oway vehicle at a bus gate in Taung Myint Ward, Pyigyidagun Township.
Authorities reportedly found 23 kilograms of raw opium, estimated to be worth about Ks 20.7 million based on the local market value of Ks 900,000 per kilogram.
Nyi Nyi Waing has also been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, according to the Myanmar Police Force. - Eleven Media/ANN
