‘Unable’ to give info on Dela Rosa case ‘at this time’, say Philippine police

MANILA: The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday (May 26) said it is now “unable” to provide information on Sen Ronald 'Bato' dela Rosa’s (oic) case “at this time.”

Dela Rosa, a former PNP chief, is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in connection with his alleged participation in former President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs, which, according to human rights groups’ estimates, killed up to 30,000 people.

“We wish to inform all members of the media that, while we deeply value and respect the role of the press in keeping the public informed, we are now unable to provide further statements regarding the case of Sen Bato dela Rosa at this time,” PNP public information chief Col. Allen Rae Co told reporters during a briefing at Camp Crame.

“The matter involves an active and ongoing law enforcement operation, and any premature disclosure of information may compromise the integrity of the proceedings and the safety of all parties involved,” he explained.

Last week, after the Supreme Court denied Dela Rosa’s bid to block the enforcement of the ICC warrant, the Department of Justice ordered the NBI and the PNP to implement the arrest order against the senator.

“We assure the public and the media that the Philippine National Police remains fully committed to transparency and will provide a comprehensive update through proper channels at the appropriate time,” Co further said.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr previously said the agency would not give dela Rosa special treatment as a former top cop and fellow Philippine Military Academy graduate. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
