VIENTIANE: Lao Pipe Industrial Technology Sole Co., Ltd. has signed agreements authorising the company to operate two water treatment plants, to boost clean water supplies in Vientiane.
The treatment plants, which have already been built, aim to meet growing public demand for water and support sustainable development across the capital.
An agreement awarding a concession to Lao Pipe Industrial Technology Sole Co., Ltd. to oversee the plants’ operation was signed at the Landmark Hotel on May 22 by the Head of Office of the Vientiane Investment Promotion and Management Committee, Thanongsin Saengphavong, and company Director Souchinda Saengphet.
Chairman of the Vientiane Administration Committee, Sirilaththongsinh Thongpheng, was also present on the occasion, along with officials from the Department of Public Works and Transport and the Water Supply State Enterprise.
The project is a 100 per cent domestic-funded investment under the Build-Operate-Transfer model. The concession period runs for 30 years starting from the completion of building work.
The official schedule provided one year to build the facilities, but the company finished the work in just seven months. The plants are equipped with modern technology and are already fully operational.
The first plant is located in Ya Pha village in Sikhottabong district, covering 2,000 square metres of land.
The second plant is located in Thatkhaow village in Sisattanak district, standing on a 2,800-square-metre site.
Each plant can generate 20,000 cubic metres of water a day, adding 40,000 cubic metres in total daily capacity. The company will sell the water to the Vientiane Capital Water Supply State Enterprise for distribution to households and businesses.
Beyond improving water quality to meet national standards, Lao Pipe prioritises hiring Lao workers and provides skills training for its staff.
Speaking at the agreement signing ceremony, the company representative said the occasion was one of great significance. It reflects government efforts to ensure the people of Vientiane have broad access to clean water, while helping local businesses to thrive.
“We pledge to dedicate ourselves to developing pipe products and water supply infrastructure to achieve universal access, and to contribute to building a prosperous and civilised nation,” she said.
She added that the project was an important milestone for Lao Pipe.
“This is a significant undertaking for our company, but the Board of Directors made a resolute decision,” she said. The management and staff committed their full effort to finish the building work early and solve water supply challenges in the capital, she added. - Vientiane Times/ANN
