HANOI: Vietnam's northern and central regions will continue to be battered by severe heatwaves until Wednesday (May 27) and Thursday, respectively, local media Thanh Nien reported on Monday.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, central localities spanning from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang and eastern Quang Ngai will witness the most extreme heat on Monday, with daytime temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in some areas.

Northern localities and the eastern central areas stretching from Gia Lai to Lam Dong are forecast to register temperatures between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius, with certain areas topping 39 degrees Celsius.

Surging power consumption amid the heatwave may raise the risk of electrical fires, while multiple localities are also on alert for potential forest fires. - Xinhua
