Indonesian woman sentenced to a five-month jail term for overstaying offence in Brunei


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): A 49-year-old Indonesian woman has been sentenced to five months’ imprisonment for overstaying in Brunei Darussalam after her immigration pass expired, according to a press release from the Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The department said the sentence followed a prosecution arising from Operation Kakas 31/2026 conducted by its Law Enforcement Division.

The woman pleaded guilty to the offence under Section 15(1) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17. Her prison sentence took effect on April 7, 2026.

The department also urged members of the public with information regarding immigration offenders to contact its hotline at 8734888 or 8753888 for Bandar Seri Begawan, or 8984111 for Kuala Belait. -- Borneo Bulletin/ANN
