YANGON: Myanmar has released the Anti-Online Scam Bill for public observation and recommendations before submitting it to the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (Union Parliament), according to the state-owned newspaper The Mirror on Thursday (May 14).

The bill, published in the newspaper on Thursday, stated that recommendations can be sent to the Office of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw.

The bill's objectives include combating online fraud by strengthening domestic and international cooperation, protecting state sovereignty and public safety, improving information-sharing systems, addressing illegal foreign involvement, and enabling authorities to investigate, prevent, seize, and manage assets connected to online fraud offenses, it said.

The Anti-Online Scam Bill consists of 13 chapters, including definitions, objectives, the formation of the Anti-Online Scam Center and its responsibilities, international cooperation, exchange of information, penalties, and general provisions.

The chapter on international cooperation also states that authorities will collaborate with international organisations and foreign countries and regions to investigate online fraud, exchange intelligence, manage the repatriation of victims, and implement formal cooperation agreements for enforcement and capacity building, it said. - Xinhua
