MANILA: More than a dozen gunshots were heard at the Philippine Senate on Wednesday (May 13), and people were told to run for cover, according to a Reuters witness.

Earlier, Reuters witnesses said Philippine military personnel were deployed at the Senate, as chaos ensued in anticipation of an attempt by law enforcement to arrest Senator Ronald dela Rosa, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court.

Reuters witnesses saw about seven military personnel in camouflage fatigues inside the Senate building, some carrying assault rifles, and at least four more arrived later.

It was not immediately clear why troops were there and military officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
