China's surprise indie hit Dear You has become an unlikely box office success, grossing more than RM1bil worldwide and over RM12.4mil in Malaysia alone.

Now, Malaysian fans will get the chance to meet the people behind the film.

Director Lan Hongchun and lead actors Li Sitong and Wang Yantong will be in Kuala Lumpur this weekend (July 4 and 5) for a fan meeting and post-screening appearances.

According to film distributor Mega Films, the trio will make appearances at five locations across the city.

On Saturday (July 4), they will greet fans at Pavilion KL's main entrance at 6pm before heading to Aurum Theatre at The Exchange TRX for a post-screening sharing session.

Moviegoers attending the evening screening of Dear You at GSC Mid Valley will also get the opportunity to hear the cast and director talk about the making of the film after the credits roll.

The fan meetings continue on Sunday with post-screening appearances at TGV Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and TGV Pavilion Bukit Jalil.

Filmed almost entirely in the Teochew dialect, Dear You follows a grandson who travels to present-day Thailand in search of his long-lost grandfather.

During his journey, he uncovers a long-buried family secret hidden within the remittance letters his grandfather had sent home to his grandmother after migrating to South-East Asia.

According to The Straits Times, the film features a predominantly non-professional cast, with Dear You marking both Wang and Li's first leading roles.

It is also director Lan's third feature filmed in the Teochew dialect, which originates from China's Chaoshan region.
