PHNOM PENH: Cambodia reaffirmed its support for the Asean Observer Team’s (AOT) monitoring of the Cambodian-Thai border as a new mission chief formally assumed his duty today, May 8, in Banteay Meanchey province.
Ministry of National Defence spokesperson Maly Socheata announced the turnover ceremony held at Team Site 2 in Serei Saophoan town, with outgoing Acting Head Lieutenant Colonel Mohd Amin Baharom transferring his responsibilities to incoming Head of Mission Commodore Glenn Z. Dizon of the Philippines.
The ceremony was attended by Lieutenant General Phat Vibolsopheak, director of the International Relations Department, who led the Cambodian Liaison Group.
During the ceremony, Dizon pledged to carry out his duties “actively and impartially” while continuing to observe, verify and report on the situation along the Cambodian-Thai border, according to a defence ministry statement.
Cambodia also reiterated its commitment to strengthening the role and mandate of the AOT, to help ensure the effective implementation of ceasefire measures and agreements reached between Cambodia and Thailand.
The ministry added that Cambodia continues to welcome support from friendly nations in promoting transparency, accountability and mutual trust as part of efforts to maintain peace and stability along the border.
“The Royal Government and the defence ministry reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand signed on October 26, 2025, as well as the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee held on December 27, 2025,” said Socheata. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
