Legendary rock band Exist reunites for super concert this August; group's biggest show on stage since 2019

KUALA LUMPUR: Legendary Malaysian pop-rock band Exists is set to mark another milestone as they return to the stage with a major showcase, Konsert Exists Memento Mori, scheduled for Aug 1 at Unifi Arena Bukit Jalil.

Inspired by the Latin phrase ‘Memento Mori’, which means to cherish every moment of life, the large-scale concert will bring together all seven members of the band - Ajai, Shah, Ujang, Along and Musa - alongside two vocalists, Mamat and Ezad, on one stage.

Since rising to prominence with iconic hits such as Untukmu Ibu and Rahsia Pohon Cemara, Exists has weathered the highs and lows of the music industry, only to re-emerge with timeless works that continue to resonate with fans.

The upcoming concert builds on the momentum of their previous successes, including the Konsert Exists Reunion in 2019, which drew strong crowds at Stadium Malawati Shah Alam, Selangor and in Singapore.

Vocalist Ezad Lazim said the concert carries deep significance for the group, especially as it will be staged at a venue regarded as a dream platform for many performers.

"Over the past 35 years, we have gone through various phases, including reunion concerts, but this time the scale is much bigger and the feeling is different. We cannot take this lightly,” he told a press conference here.

The nearly three-hour performance will require meticulous preparation, from song selection to arrangement, to ensure the momentum remains engaging right up to the finale.

He added that the band will also introduce a new single, while retaining the signature musical identity that defines Exists.

Meanwhile, member Musa stressed that reputation remains a key priority in every concert they undertake, as they strive to maintain the trust of both fans and organisers.

"The success of a concert is not measured by ticket sales alone, but by the quality of the performance and its impact on the audience. We don’t want to simply fulfil a contract, we want every show to be truly meaningful, because that shapes our future,” he said.

He added that the band places strong emphasis on balancing authenticity with innovation in their musical arrangements, allowing fans to enjoy the original essence of their songs while experiencing   something fresh.

Meanwhile, organiser Iman Tang, founder of Icon Entertainment, described the concert as a tribute to Exists’ enduring legacy in an ever-evolving industry.

"To sustain a career for more than 35 years is no small feat. Exists remains relevant not only because of their attitude, but also the quality of their body of work.

"The reunion of the original members alongside vocalists from different eras makes Konsert Exists Memento Mori a rare and special experience,” he said.
