Charges filed vs wife and son of former Philippines Lower House member over human trafficking case


MANILA: The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed charges against the wife and son of former Representative Mike Defensor (pic) for allegedly being involved in a human trafficking case.

NBI Director Melvin Matibag confirmed this to the INQUIRER on Friday.

According to Matibag, the NBI filed a case for violation of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act against the former member of the Lower House's wife, Julie Defensor, and son, Miguel Defensor, and other individuals at the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday (April 23).

He said the investigation revealed that the Defensors own the hotel where sexual exploitation was allegedly committed against 54 women victims.

The NBI recently raided a disco bar in Pasig City, rescuing 54 female victims who were supposedly being made “customer care assistants” for sexual exploitation in exchange for a fee of either P10,000 (US$164) to P20,000. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
