PHNOM PENH: Cambodia and Thailand have reinforced efforts to maintain stability along their shared border through continued military-to-military coordination, following an informal meeting held on Thursday (April 23) between regional commanders of both sides.
According to Maly Socheata, spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence, the meeting took place this morning at the Choam-Sa Ngam International Border Checkpoint in Anlong Veng district, Oddar Meanchey province.
It brought together the Secretariat of the Cambodia–Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) from Cambodia’s Military Region 4 and Thailand’s Army Area 2.
The Cambodian delegation was led by Brigadier General Nith Narong, head of the RBC secretariat, while the Thai delegation was headed by Major General Kampanat Waphansu.
“During the informal meeting, both sides discussed the continued effective implementation of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), dated Dec 27, 2025,” said Socheata.
This includes enhancing informal operational coordination and streamlining local conflict resolution facilitated by the RBC secretariats.
The defence ministry reiterated Cambodia’s “firm, sincere and unwavering commitment” to implementing key bilateral agreements, including the GBC joint statement and the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement signed on Oct 26, 2025.
“These efforts aim to ensure a peaceful, just and lasting solution in accordance with international law and existing treaties between the two countries,” said a ministry statement. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
