TOKYO: A spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry on Tuesday (April 21) objected to Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s ritual offering to Yasukuni Shrine, saying that China “firmly opposes and strongly condemns” her actions.

The ministry also revealed it had lodged protest with the Japan side, making claims including that the offering was “a provocation against Japan’s war victims.”

The South Korean Foreign Affairs Ministry issued its own statement on the same day, expressing strong disappointment and serious concern.
