Myanmar, China discuss investment in deepwater drilling and refinery construction in Myanmar's mature oil fields


YANGON: Myanmar and China have reportedly discussed investment in deepwater drilling and the construction of oil refineries in Myanmar's mature oil fields.

The discussion took place during a visit to China-owned China Railway Beijing Engineering Group Co., Ltd. on April 13 and 14 by Union Minister for Electricity and Energy U Ko Ko Lwin, accompanied by Myanmar Ambassador to the People's Republic of China U Zaw Win Myint, and meetings with the company's chairman and officials, MEIGE Joint Energy Holding Co., Ltd. chairman and officials, and Yunnan-Irrawaddy Supply Chain president and officials.

During the meeting, the Union Minister and officials discussed the following: interest in investing in the electricity and energy sectors; interest in drilling deep wells in Myanmar's mature oil fields; interest in building and investing in oil refineries; interest in implementing renewable energy projects including solar energy; and interest in cooperating along the supply chain for importing crude oil and petroleum products for Myanmar's energy security and safety.

Afterwards, they were invited to visit the ground to inspect the situation and continue detailed discussions. - Eleven Media/ANN
