“Circus of Life” highlights the power of a mother’s love - a heartfelt Malaysian film set for release on May 7

A touching local production, 'Circus of Life', has officially announced its nationwide theatrical release on May 7, 2026, in conjunction with Mother’s Day.

Directed by Malaysian filmmaker Tham Wai Fook, the film presents an emotional story about dreams, a mother’s love, and the sacrifices within a family — themes that resonate deeply with Malaysian audiences.

Circus of Life follows Wei, a man who has dreamed since childhood of building his own animal circus. However, the pressures of life and repeated failures gradually push him off course, leading him to believe that he has even been abducted by aliens.

As his mental state becomes increasingly unstable, only two people remain by his side — his loyal girlfriend and his mother, who never gives up hope.

Even as her son drifts further away from reality, his mother continues searching for a way to “bring him home.”

The film delicately portrays a powerful truth: the more difficult a child’s journey becomes, the greater a mother’s love grows.

It also serves as a tribute to all women — especially mothers — who constantly sacrifice, endure silently, and give selflessly without expecting anything in return. The film was previously known by its original title, “Mother, Mother, Mother ”, which clearly reflects the central theme of a mother’s love as the heart of the story.

Through its emotional journey, Circus of Life is not just a story about dreams, but also a reflection on the role of women in a family — as mothers, partners, and the emotional pillars who hold everything together.

Beyond its family-centered narrative, the film also captures the beauty of Malaysia’s multicultural society.

Wei’s life in a multi-ethnic neighbourhood reflects everyday moments that are familiar to many Malaysians — from exchanging “good mornings” in shared corridors to a Malay girl who speaks fluent Chinese helping his family make a phone call.

Through these subtle portrayals, the director highlights that despite our differences in background, language, and culture, we share the same space — understanding and supporting one another.

It is a sincere and authentic depiction of Malaysia’s social harmony, rarely portrayed so honestly on screen.

According to director Tham Wai Fook, the film is inspired by his personal experiences, making it a deeply realistic and relatable work.

With a simple yet moving storytelling style, Circus of Life is expected to resonate with audiences, allowing them to see reflections of themselves — whether as a child, a mother, or someone who once chased a dream.

Circus of Life will be released in cinemas nationwide on May 7, 2026. A film that not only touches the heart but also reminds us of the value of love, sacrifice, and human connection.

Circus of Life is directed and written by Tham Wai Fook, and features a cast of non-professional actors including Tom Phan, Faye An Ying Fei, Lai Thiam Tai, and Khok Eng Loy.

The film is produced by Hour Hand Pictures, distributed by Mega Films Distribution, and supported by the Digital Content Fund (DKD) from the Ministry of Communications through the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS).
