Hong Kong’s Hospital Authority has found a doctor breached its code of conduct after he posted a photo of a resuscitation procedure in a public hospital, with the case being passed to the Medical Council.
The authority’s Kowloon West group of hospitals announced on Tuesday that it had terminated the doctor’s contract, one day after stating the man was “no longer an employee”.
“The Kowloon West Cluster has completed its investigation into the incident. We confirm that the staff member breached the code of conduct and lacked integrity, with such behaviours seriously damaging the professional image of doctors,” it said.
“The cluster has terminated its contract with the staff involved. It has passed the relevant case to the Medical Council for follow-up in accordance with its mechanism.”
The council is responsible for the registration and disciplinary regulation of medical practitioners in the city.
The authority stressed that all staff must adhere to professional codes of conduct, maintain integrity and uphold the principle of protecting patients’ rights and privacy.

Last month, Jenson So, a doctor with the Kowloon West Cluster and a former contestant on ViuTV’s reality show King Maker III, sparked a social media outcry after posting an Instagram story showing himself performing a resuscitation procedure in what appeared to be a public hospital ward.
The image, which went viral, showed him holding medical equipment alongside the caption: “A rarely seen cardioversion – everyone has come to watch me deliver the electric shock.” -- SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST
