Laos issues heat warning as temperatures are expected to reach 40 degrees Celcius

VIENTIANE (Xinhua): Lao authorities have issued a nationwide warning for hot to extremely hot weather, urging the public to take precautions as temperatures are expected to reach as high as 40 degrees Celsius.

A moderate to strong low-pressure system, combined with westerly winds, is affecting most parts of the country, according to a report issued on Sunday by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, adding that these conditions are expected to bring widespread heat, with dry haze persisting throughout the day.

Several provinces are forecast to experience peak temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius, it said.

Authorities have warned of increased risks associated with the extreme heat, including heatstroke, fire hazards and potential electrical short circuits.

The department advised residents to limit prolonged outdoor activities, stay hydrated and remain alert to changing weather conditions.
