MANILA/BEIJING (Bloomberg): China called on the Philippines to help create the conditions needed to stabilise and improve bilateral relations in the spirit of mutual understanding, according to a statement posted on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the latest meeting between the two sides.

The countries’ officials held a "candid and in-depth” exchange of views on relations, and international and regional issues, in diplomatic consultations on Saturday in the southeastern city of Quanzhou, Fujian province, the ministry said.

The Philippines stressed the need to sustain diplomatic dialogue and properly manage differences, according to the statement.

Both sides spoke positively about the development of China-Asean relations in current times.

The statements said that despite a complex and volatile environment, they would strengthen communication and coordination to advance East Asian cooperation and safeguard regional stability and development.
