Brunei's central bank updates alert list, adds unlicensed entity

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) has updated its Alert List, with one additional entity identified as not licensed or regulated by the authority.

In a statement, the central bank said the Alert List serves as a public advisory on companies and individuals that are neither authorised nor supervised by BDCB, cautioning against any assumption that they are legitimate financial service providers.

The latest update includes “Loan Adakami BDCB” in the list.

BDCB stressed that the list is issued to help the public exercise vigilance and avoid being misled, noting that inclusion does not preclude further assessment of the entity’s activities.

Members of the public are reminded to deal only with financial institutions licensed by BDCB, particularly for services such as money remittance, money changing, money lending and pawnbroking.

The central bank also warned that individuals who engage with unlicensed or unregulated entities will not be protected under Brunei’s financial regulatory framework.

The full Alert List is available on the BDCB website, where the public can also access information on identifying financial scams.

BDCB reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding financial stability in the Sultanate and protecting consumers, adding that it will continue to monitor suspicious or unauthorised financial activities. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
