BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): Brunei is currently experiencing hazy conditions due to smoke from numerous hotspots detected across Borneo, particularly in Indonesia.
In a joint press release issued by Brunei's Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, Ministry of Health and Meteorological Department on Sunday, satellite imagery from the Asean Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC) detected 514 hotspots on Thursday, 1,734 hotspots on Friday and 1,180 hotspots on Saturday across Borneo.
The hotspots were mainly concentrated in the western part of Borneo, especially in Central Kalimantan and West Kalimantan, Indonesia.
The ministry said the prevailing southwesterly winds are blowing towards Brunei, carrying smoke haze from the predominant hotspots and contributing significantly to the current hazy conditions.
Despite the hazy conditions, the Pollutant Standard Index readings recorded at air quality monitoring stations across all four districts in Brunei remained within the good to moderate range. -- Xinhua
