Myanmar junta chief holds talk with Thai defence forces chief on regional and border stability

YANGON: Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) and Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Royal Thai Defence Forces Chief General Ukris Boontanondha met at Zeyathiri Beikman in Naypyitaw on the morning of March 18 to discuss regional stability and border security issues.

The meeting was attended by SSPC Vice Chairman Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Secretary of the Commission and Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Ye Win Oo, the commission member and Chief of Staff (Army, Navy, Air) General Kyaw Swar Lin and senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, and Chief of Joint Staff General Chitchanok Nujjaya, and senior officers from the Royal Thai Armed Forces, the Royal Thai Army Attaché to Myanmar, and officials.

The meeting discussed the long-standing and good diplomatic relations and friendly cooperation between the two countries and the two militaries, the need to further enhance cooperation between the two militaries, regional stability and border stability, the prevention of illegal trade and the suppression of drugs through the two border areas, the reduction of cross-border smog pollution, and environmental conservation.

In addition, they discussed issues of cooperation in training between the two militaries, issues of cooperation to effectively prevent and clear online financial fraud, the upcoming High Level Meeting (HLC) between the Myanmar and Thai militaries, the successful holding of the multiparty democratic general election in Myanmar as a free, fair, clean and dignified election, the recent elections in Thailand, the current parliamentary sessions and the ongoing cooperation between the two militaries.

After the meeting, the SSPC Chairman, the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services and the Royal Thai Defence Forces Chief exchanged souvenirs and took a group photo with the attendees. - Eleven Media/ANN
