BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam expressed sympathy over a recent road incident that claimed the lives of two cyclists, calling on relevant authorities to examine measures to enhance road safety.

In his titah during the opening of the First Meeting of the 22nd session of the Legislative Council (LegCo) on Thursday (March 12), the Ruler urged the National Road Safety Council and related agencies to review not only legislative and enforcement aspects, but also the need for safer infrastructure for road users.

The Monarch stressed that improving road safety requires a comprehensive approach, including appropriate road facilities and preventive measures to reduce the risk of accidents.

The remarks followed a fatal accident on Feb 17 along the Muara–Tutong Highway heading towards Muara, where two cyclists were killed after they were allegedly struck by a car near the Tungku Beach area. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
