Cambodia's export records 17.2 per cent rise in first two months of 2026

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia exported products worth US$5.23 billion in the first two months of 2026, a year-on-year increase of 17.2 per cent, said a General Department of Customs and Excise's report released on Tuesday (March 10).

The top five export destinations for the South-East Asian country are the United States, Vietnam, Japan, China and Spain, the report said.

Meanwhile, the kingdom recorded the total import of $5.88 billion during the January-February period this year, up 18 per cent compared to the same period last year, the report added.

Ministry of Commerce's Secretary of State and Spokesperson Penn Sovicheat said the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and Cambodia's bilateral free trade agreements (FTAs) with China, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates had given a boost to the country's export growth.

"These regional and bilateral trade deals have served as a catalyst for our long-term and sustainable export growth, as they provide preferential tariffs for Made-in-Cambodia products," he told Xinhua.

Thong Mengdavid, deputy director of the China-Asean Studies Center of the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, said Cambodia's exports will likely continue their uptick trend throughout 2026 thanks to these trade pacts.

RCEP will further integrate Cambodia into regional supply chains by improving rules of origin and market access and improving Cambodia's industry toward more high-value-added products, while other bilateral FTAs will deepen bilateral trade by expanding tariff preferences and reducing non-tariff barriers, he said. - Xinhua.
