Brunei and Iran enjoy long standing ties

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Ambassador of Iran to Brunei Darussalam Mohammad Taghi Rajabi said Brunei and Iran have enjoyed close cooperation and long-standing cordial ties based on mutual respect for more than three decades.

Over the past year, bilateral engagements included the 9th Joint Technical Committee Meeting in Tehran, the participation of a Brunei National Chamber of Commerce delegation in the 7th Iran Expo and the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoU), he said.

The ambassador said this at a reception hosted by the Embassy of Iran in Brunei Darussalam to mark the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution and National Day on Friday.

Cultural highlights mentioned included the broadcast of the Iranian film Maritime Silk Road on Brunei television, an Iranian mosque photo exhibition and the painting competition ‘Al-Quds and Palestinian Children’. The ambassador also noted participation in the solidarity march for Palestine in Bandar Seri Begawan.

The ambassador said Iran attaches great importance to its relationship with Brunei and is ready to strengthen ties in economy, trade, technical services, culture and tourism.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Nazmi Mohamad and spouse Datin Binanun Bungsu were the guests of honour.

The event commenced with the recitation of Al-Quran and Doa Selamat.

The evening featured a video presentation on Iran’s advancements, a poetry recital by Professor Dr Nehaluddin Ahmad, and a cake-cutting ceremony by the guest of honour and the ambassador. – Borneo BulletiN/ANN
