Brunei ranks among world’s fastest for mobile internet


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei Darussalam has emerged as one of the world’s top performers for mobile internet speeds, ranking eighth globally with a median download speed of 234.96 Mbps, according to the latest Speedtest Global Index published by Ookla for December 2025.

The ranking places Brunei ahead of regional neighbours such as Singapore (10th, 199.70 Mbps), Malaysia (29th, 143.70 Mbps), Thailand (33rd, 136.23 Mbps) and Indonesia (75th, 52.73 Mbps). Globally, the United Arab Emirates topped the mobile rankings with 691.76 Mbps, followed by Qatar and Kuwait.

The global median mobile download speed stood at 105.70 Mbps, meaning Brunei’s performance was more than double the global average. The index also recorded a global median mobile upload speed of 14.78 Mbps and latency of 24 milliseconds.

However, in fixed broadband performance, Brunei ranked 89th worldwide, with a median download speed of 86.55 Mbps. This places the Sultanate behind regional leader Singapore, which topped the global fixed broadband rankings at 410.06 Mbps, as well as Malaysia (44th, 163.86 Mbps) and Thailand (12th, 276.03 Mbps).
