Malaysian hot-star singer Khai Bahar joins up with youngster Yulia for the searing new single 'Toksik'

Sony Music Entertainment Malaysia presents a special collaboration that brings together two soulful voices, Khai Bahar, the current hot star of the Malaysian music scene, and rising singer Yulia Kamelia, through their latest duet single titled “Toksik”.

With a pop ballad feel, this song is the work of prolific composer Farouk Roman, who is known for his simple yet piercing melodies, embroidered with honest lyrics by Adrianna Cinta. The song is already all the right waves and is also the OST (original sound track) for the recently-concluded Astro Ria drama series 'SetiaKu Berdiri', where the storyline and the song have won many admirers with movie and music fans.

As in the series, "Toksik" comes across as an emotional confession — about trapped love, buried wounds, and finally revealed honesty. The work showcases the musical maturity and vocal power of Khai Bahar and Yulia Kamelia, who combine in emotional harmony, creating an intimate and moving listening experience.

According to Khai Bahar, the combination of his vocals with Yulia creates a unique balance and chemistry.

"Yulia's voice has a softness; when combined with the tone of my voice, we get a natural balance. It doesn't overlap, it doesn't compete, it complements each other," he explained.

As for Yulia Kamelia, this collaboration is a new challenge that further strengthens her maturity as a rising singer.

"Toksik is one of the songs that is difficult for me in terms of technique, harmony, and emotion. I tried to adapt my singing to Khai, and that was a very valuable experience," she said.

As for the song, "Toksik" describes a relationship where two souls love each other, but the way they love is the cause of the wound. Not because of hate, but because of a love that is too strong to harm oneself.

According to Khai Bahar, this song feels very close to the reality of many modern relationships.

“For me, a toxic relationship is when two people love each other, but the way they love is painful. Sometimes it’s not anyone’s fault, it’s just that they’re not on the same page," he said.

Meanwhile, Yulia Kamelia emphasises the emotional side: “A toxic relationship is not necessarily full of anger or hatred. Sometimes it’s a love that is so deep that we feel like we can’t live without them… but at the same time, we lose ourselves.”

Both the singers also believe that this song is a reflection of reality, of painful beauty, of separation that is still full of love and affection, and of love that can no longer be saved.

Khai Bahar also admitted that the Toksik demo was enough to make him attached to this song. “When I first heard the demo, I immediately felt that this song had a strong soul. The melody is simple, but it pierces the feelings. I knew I wanted to sing this song.”

To capture the emotions of the song during the recording process, Khai put himself in the situation of someone who is trying to survive but is getting hurt more. “I tried to keep the emotions under control so that the delivery is more honest,” he added.

For Yulia Kamelia, she felt a deep connection with the song Toksik since she first heard the demo. “Every verse of the lyrics is full of meaning. The melody of this song is also strong and easy to remember,” she said.

Meanwhile, top Malaysian composer Farouk Roman maintains his strong ballad identity — simple, minimalist, but leaving a deep impact and memorable melody, while Adrianna Cinta is the lyricist for this song. Emotional lyrics that tell the reality of a fragile relationship make "Toksik" a song that is close to the feelings of many.

Through "Toksik", both singers and the team behind the composition hope that this song can be a space for listeners to feel understood.

Khai Bahar said, “If someone is hurting, I hope they feel accompanied. Sometimes music can be a way to release feelings that we have been holding back or repressing for a long time.”

And Yulia Kamelia also shared: “I hope 'Toksik becomes a mirror for those who have been or are currently in this kind of relationship. Not to judge but to help them realize, heal, and become stronger.”

The single is now available to stream on all major digital platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
