Persatuan Kebajikan Sayap Kasih Malaysia pleads for help in saving a six-month-old baby who is fighting for every heartbeat


At six months old, when he should be learning to roll over and babbling his first sounds, Wong Jia Wei is instead fighting for his life with every beat of his failing heart.

He hasn't had the chance to smile properly yet, but his tiny body is already bearing the weight of a life-threatening condition.

Jia Wei is from Sabah. When he was just two months old, he was admitted to the hospital due to abnormal jaundice levels. His family never imagined that what seemed like a routine check-up would completely change the trajectory of their lives.

Doctors discovered that his tiny heart was severely enlarged.

After further examination, Jia Wei was diagnosed with Large DCSA VSD (Double Committed Subarterial Ventricular Septal Defect).

Inside his heart, there is a massive hole between the left and right ventricles. Blood continuously flows abnormally between chambers, forcing his heart to work under extreme overload day and night, ultimately leading to heart failure.

On top of that, the prolonged abnormal blood flow has begun damaging his aortic valve. The valve leaflets are prolapsing, causing aortic regurgitation. Blood is pumped out, only to flow back in the wrong direction.

The doctors have warned: if treatment is delayed any further, the valve damage could become permanent and irreversible, a consequence that would follow him for life.

Because his heart cannot cope, Jia Wei suffers from severe growth and developmental delays. He is much smaller than babies his age and can only be fed through a nasogastric tube.

Even while taking two different heart failure medications simultaneously (Lasix and Aldactone), his condition continues to deteriorate.

Medication may no longer save him. The doctors have made it clear: he must undergo pediatric heart surgery as soon as possible. This is Jia Wei's only chance at survival.

However, the reality is very harsh. Jia Wei's father is a lorry driver with a meager income. His mother must care for Jia Wei and their other child full-time and cannot work outside the home.

While enduring the agony of watching their child's condition worsen day by day, this family must also face the staggering medical cost of RM75,000 for the heart surgery and treatment.

Persatuan Kebajikan Sayap Kasih Malaysia urgently appeals to the public for help. Your every donation is not just paying a medical bill; it's giving six-month-old Jia Wei a chance to survive. We urgently need to raise RM75,000 for heart surgery and medical expenses to give Wong Jia Wei a fighting chance at life.
