MANDALAY: Residents of Mandalay, Pyin Oo Lwin and Sagaing clearly felt an earthquake that struck on the night of January 8, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

The DMH said the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.3 on the Richter scale, with its epicentre located about two miles north-east of Mandalay. The quake occurred at a depth of 12 kilometres at 9:26 p.m.

The earthquake was reported to be the 259th aftershock following a major earlier quake.
