PHU THO (Bernama-VNA): Authorities and residents in Van Mieu commune, the northern province of Phu Tho in Vietnam, discovered a large unexploded bomb buried beneath the bank of the He River on the morning of Dec 22, posing potential safety risks, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.

According to assessments by competent forces, the bomb, believed to be from the French colonial time, measures about 1.3 metres in length, 40 centimetres in diameter and weighs an estimated 500 kilograms.

Upon receiving the report, provincial functional forces were promptly dispatched to the site to verify the information and implement urgent safety measures.

The Phu Tho provincial Military Command coordinated with the Command of Regional Defence Zone 2 and the People’s Committee of Van Mieu Commune to cordon off the area, deploy round-the-clock guards, and issue warnings urging residents to stay away from the site to prevent accidents.

The Phu Tho provincial Military Command and relevant agencies have developed a plan to safely transport and detonate the bomb in strict accordance with regulations on the handling of explosive materials, ensuring absolute safety for local people and surrounding structures. - Bernama-VNA
