PHNOM PENH: As of Saturday (Dec 20) morning, Thai forces continue to shell and conduct airstrikes on Cambodian territory, according to the Ministry of National Defence.

Ministry spokesperson Maly Socheata noted the destruction of a key bridge which links Oddar Meanchey and Siem Reap provinces, in an attack by Thai F-16s.

She warned that “indiscriminate” Thai artillery bombardments are continuing to fall in multiple provinces and noted that Thailand appears to be targeting civilian infrastructure and villages.

She also detailed some of last night’s attacks.

Just before 7pm, Thai naval vessels fired several heavy calibre rounds near the Cham Yeam border checkpoint in Mondul Seima district, Koh Kong province. The situation in the area has since reportedly returned to calm.

At around 7.30pm, a Thai combined arms assault took place in military region 4, which includes Oddar Meanchey & Preah Vihear. Thai infantry, supported by armour, attacked the strategic areas of Phnom Khmaoch, Bos Sbov and Choam Te.

Late last night, the Thai air force destroyed the Ou Chik bridge, on the border of Siem Reap province.

This critical civilian infrastructure, located between Chong Kal district, Oddar Meanchey province, and Srei Snam, Siem Reap, was reportedly destroyed in the 10.58 air strike.
