BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: This gold medal is not for myself; it is for the country, said national wushu athlete Mohamad Adi Salihin Roslan – who claimed a gold medal at the 33rd South-East Asian Games (SEA Games) in Thailand – on returning to the Sultanate on Tuesday (Dec 16).

He added, “I’m very happy to win a gold medal for Brunei Darussalam. I felt really proud and emotional when the Brunei national anthem was played at the venue.”

“I am also happy that Team Wushu performed well in the competition, showcasing their impressive skills at the SEA Games. Our training has paid off because we started preparing two years ago,” he said.

Mohamad Adi Salihin is also the first athlete in the country to achieve a fourth consecutive gold medal across four successive SEA Games.

He attributed his achievement to hard work, saying, “Some might say it’s rezeki, but without working hard, there will be no rezeki at all.”

Recalling his preparation, he said, “Since it’s a three-combined-discipline event, I needed to prepare not only physically – focusing on movement and technique – but also mentally. This was also my first three-combined-discipline event.”

Looking ahead, he said, “I want to train even harder to contribute more medals for Brunei. We will be competing in the Asian Games next year in Japan.” – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
