Inn National League opens election campaign with victory billboard ceremony

YANGON: The Inn National League (INL) formally launched its election campaign on December 3 with a victory billboard installation ceremony held near the entrance to Nyaungshwe Township, the party announced.

The event marked the beginning of the party’s official campaign activities ahead of the upcoming election. According to party officials, additional billboards will be erected in Nyaungshwe and Taunggyi townships as part of the campaign rollout. The INL plans to contest ten seats at both national and state levels.

All INL candidates were present at the ceremony. Party Chairperson and Inn ethnic representative Tin Tin Yee addressed supporters, outlining her commitment to the long-term development of the Inle Lake region. She said she has contributed to local development for over a decade—not solely during election periods—and emphasised her focus on improving education, healthcare, and regional infrastructure.

Tin Tin Yee highlighted the environmental challenges facing Inle Lake, noting that the region experienced severe flooding in 2024 followed by earthquake impacts in 2025. Sediment inflows caused water levels to rise sharply, resulting in widespread silt accumulation. She warned that the lake’s natural beauty and ecological value could be lost without immediate conservation efforts.

She stated that sustainable restoration would require removing existing sediment buildup, preventing upstream erosion, replanting vegetation in vulnerable areas, and improving water-flow management. Preserving Inle Lake, she said, is essential not only for environmental reasons but for the future livelihoods of the Inn ethnic population.

INL Secretary Tun Hla (also known as Toe Hla) said there are now more than 220,000 Inn people and expressed confidence that they will support the party. He said the INL aims to help the Inn community achieve equal rights and eventually secure self-administration if the party wins seats and contributes to national leadership responsibilities.

He added that environmental rehabilitation of Inle Lake would be the party’s top priority if elected, with plans to collaborate with local residents and technical experts. He also recalled that the region once thrived from tourism income during the “Visit Myanmar Year 1996” campaign and said the party hopes to revive similar socio-economic progress.

The INL’s candidates for the upcoming election include: Ethnic Inn Representative: Tin Tin Yee (Ann), Pyithu Hluttaw: Dr. Ye Myint Soe, Shan State Parliament PR Constituency No. 1: Kyi Lwin, Naing Lin, Sai Wanna, Su Wah Wah Khin, Shan State Parliament FPTP: Tun Hla (Toe Ya) for Nyaungshwe, Thura Aung for Pinlaung, Aung Kyi Oo for Taunggyi, and Sanda Lwin for Phekhon. - Eleven Media/ANN
