BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A 52-year-old woman, Nurul Jannah Abdullah Argente @ Memenia Embile Argente, was sentenced to five years of imprisonment by the Intermediate Court on Wednesday (Nov 26), for multiple offences involving forged immigration documents and counterfeit rubber stamps.

Intermediate Judge Harnita Zelda Skinner heard from Deputy Public Prosecutor Pengiran Nor’ Azemeena Pengiran Mohiddin and Prosecuting Officer Jordan Tiah on June 18, 2023, that Nurul Jannah was initially arrested when police discovered several tampered passports and fake immigration stamps inside a car parked at Kampong Menglait.

According to the first charge, she was found with five Philippine passports, each containing forged Brunei immigration employment pass stamps of ‘Employment pass Regulation 15 for Controller of Immigration Brunei Darussalam HQ 105’ and ‘Employment Pass Regulation 15 for Controller of Immigration Brunei Darussalam HQ 123’, which fell under the 12 (1) Passport Act, Chapter 146.

The second charge relates to the possession of two counterfeit rubber stamps, both imitating official Brunei Immigration stamps, with the offence falling under the 473(b) of the Penal Code, Chapter 22.

Both the third and fourth charges relate to earlier incidents, where, in January 2023, she allegedly forged an ‘Employment Pass HQ105’ stamp on an Indonesian passport belonging to an individual named Sukaesih, as well as in March 2021, she allegedly forged an ‘Employment Pass HQ123’ stamp on another Indonesian passport belonging to Chowiarti.

These third and fourth charges faced by Nurul Jannah fell under the 466(c) Penal Code, Chapter 22.

In the ruling, Nurul Jannah will serve the five-year imprisonment with effect from July 10. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
