Survey aims to strengthen Brunei's labour market

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS), Ministry of Finance and Economy, is conducting the Labour Force Survey (LFS) 2025 nationwide from Nov 3 to 30.

The LFS aims to collect up-to-date information on the size, structure, distribution, and characteristics of the labour force, including employment, unemployment and other economic indicators.

The findings will support effective planning and policymaking to strengthen the nation’s labour market and overall economy.

LFS 2025 is conducted under the Statistics Act, Chapter 81 of the Laws of Brunei Darussalam. DEPS assures all selected households that the information provided will be kept strictly confidential and used solely for statistical purposes.

Under Section 9 of the Statistics Act, failure or refusal to provide the required information, or providing false particulars, is an offence punishable by a fine of BND4,000.

For public safety, households are advised to verify the identity of DEPS survey officers. They will:

• Wear an official survey pass with the DEPS logo, photo, identity card number and name;

•Wear official vests displaying the JPES name;

• Present an official appointment letter authorising them to conduct the survey;

• Present an official notification letter from DEPS explaining the survey’s purpose.

DEPS survey officers will never request money, payment, personal passwords, or bank details.

The support and cooperation of all selected households are essential to producing accurate labour force statistics, which are vital for effective planning and the development of labour market policies that contribute to national progress. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
