BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Twenty-five students participated in a hands-on coding session that blended digital learning with environmental awareness at the special Brunei Kids Can Code (BKCC) workshop organised by Dynamik Technologies Sdn Bhd on Sunday (Nov 16) at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).

Using Micro:bit technology, the participants built an automated plant-watering system that detects soil moisture and activates watering when needed, linking coding concepts with practical sustainability applications.

An event in collaboration with UBD’s Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research (IBER), it marks the first anniversary of the ‘Dynamik Trees‘ programme.

It also saw a tree planting ceremony marking Dynamik Trees first anniversary commemoration, jointly officiated by the guest of honour, UBD Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Sustainability) Dr Haji Abdul Hanif Dato Paduka Haji Mahadi and Head of Corporate and Services of Dynamik Technologies Siti Rozana Md Yunos.

At the tree planting ceremony, UBD Botanical Research Centre (UBD BRC) donated a hopea vacciniifolia sapling while Dynamik Technologies donated a dipterocarpus borneensis sapling under the Dynamik Trees ‘Adopt-A-Tree’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, dedicated to the BKCC programme.

The gesture reflected a shared commitment to fostering environmental care and digital learning among the younger generation. A guided biodiversity garden tour at the UBD BRC followed after the tree planting ceremony.

The ‘Dynamik Trees’ programme, launched in 2024, supports the ex-situ conservation of five native tree species through the ‘Adopt-A-Tree’ project and the planting of 23 saplings of high conservation value native tree species at the UBD BRC, forms part of Dynamik Technologies’ CSR initiatives to advance biodiversity research and promote environmental care.

“This collaboration with UBD IBER’s reflects what we believe in at Dynamik, that progress in technology and business must go hand in hand with care for the environment and our community,” said Interim Chief Executive Officer of Dynamik Technologies Fatin Nabeela Fadzil. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
