Rumours circulate that Thet Thet Khine is excluded from list of eligible Myanmar election candidates

YANGON: There are reports that Thet Thet Khine, Chairwoman of the People’s Pioneer Party (PPP), is not included in the list of candidates eligible to contest the election released by the Union Election Commission (UEC).

However, a PPP official denied the reports, calling them false.

“The UEC has already issued our candidate cards. The circulating news includes false information. There is no exclusion list. You can visit the constituency where she is contesting. The news is not true,” the official said.

Thet Thet Khine has registered to contest in Yangon Region No.2 Amyotha Hluttaw Constituency, which will be held under the first-past-the-post system.

The PPP is among six major parties contesting the 2025 multi-party democratic general election nationwide, with a total of 672 candidates submitted to the UEC.

Although the reason for her alleged exclusion was not stated, the BBC reported that Thet Thet Khine’s name was missing from the candidate list following claims that she was disqualified from contesting the election due to not meeting candidate eligibility requirements. - Eleven Media/ANN
