BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Tens of thousands of people gathered at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium for a magnificent spectacle, witnessing a stunning display of 400 drones, lively field performances and a grand fireworks finale.
The Malam Gemilang UBD Drone Show Saturday night (Oct 11) celebrated the 79th birthday of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei and Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).
The event also commemorated the 40th anniversary of UBD.
Last night’s event saw a special appearance by renowned Malaysian singer Anuar Zain.
The award-winning vocalist captivated the 21,000-strong audience with his soulful renditions of timeless hits such as Keabadian Cinta, Bila Resah and Lelaki Ini.
His powerful voice and heartfelt delivery filled the stadium, drawing applause from the crowd. Anuar Zain led the crowd in a heartfelt rendition of the birthday song for His Majesty, a moment filled with unity and emotion.
A breathtaking 12-minute fireworks finale followed, lighting up the stadium with brilliance and colour.
Anuar Zain’s performance highlighted the region’s shared cultural ties and reflected the event’s spirit of unity and joy in honour of His Majesty’s birthday and UBD’s anniversary.
A key highlight was the 15-minute drone show, featuring 400 drones operated by trained Bruneian teams from imagine Sdn Bhd and 40 UBD students.
The intricate display demonstrated advanced drone synchronisation and creative digital artistry, reflecting UBD’s commitment to innovation and local talent development. As the drones seamlessly formed 14 stunning images in the sky, the performances on the field featured songs such as 15 Julai Kelahiran Putera, Dirgahayu, Rahmat and UBD’s official anthem Mendepan Bersama.
