Vietjet takes delivery of first Boeing 737 jet as part of US$32bil deal


HANOI (Reuters): Vietnamese airline Vietjet said on Monday it has taken delivery of the first Boeing 737-8 plane under its US$32 billion order for 200 Boeing 737 jets.

Vietnamese President Luong Cuong attended a delivery ceremony in Seattle during his visit to the United States to attend the UN General Assembly, the company said in a statement.

The budget airline said the aircraft order is part of a plan to expand its global network.

Reuters reported last week that the delivery was set to take place.

Meanwhile, Vietnam's flagship carrier, Vietnam Airlines, is also planning to add 30 more wide-body jets to its fleet through lease or purchase, it said in an announcement to suppliers released on Monday.

The actual delivery for agreed contracts will take place from 2028 to 2030, it said. Boeing 787-9 or Airbus A350-900 are the two models to be considered. -- Reuters
