BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A Brunei Darussalam delegation led by Deputy Minister (Security and Law) at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Deputy Chairman of the National Security Committee Datuk Seri Paduka Awang Sufian Sabtu, participated in the 2025 Global Public Security Cooperation Forum Lianyungang (GPSCFL) from Sept 16 to 17.
The annual forum, jointly organised by China’s Ministry of Public Security and the China Association for Friendship under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focused on emerging regional and global security threats, including cybercrime, terrorism, and transnational criminal activity.
During the event, the Brunei delegation held a bilateral meeting with Director of the Political Department of China’s Ministry of Public Security Jia Lijun. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the existing security cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to further collaboration in tackling issues such as online scams, drug trafficking, and the application of advanced technologies in policing.
The delegation also visited the Public Security Tech Expo, gaining insights into innovations in law enforcement technology.
Accompanying the Deputy Minister were Acting Permanent Secretary (Security and Law), PMO Awang Zulhusam Abdul Samad; Deputy Commissioner of Police, Royal Brunei Police Force Yang Amat Mulia DCP Pengiran Anak Haji Mohammed Saifullah; Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau Datuk Paduka Mohd Zalani Ismail; and other senior officials from the PMO.
Prior to the forum in Lianyungang, the Brunei delegation visited Xi’an in Shaanxi Province from September 12 to 15. Hosted by the Shaanxi Provincial Public Security Department, the visit followed the official trip to Brunei in March 2025 by Vice-Governor of Shaanxi Province Dai Binbin.
The Brunei delegation observed advanced technologies such as Case Management and Traffic Control Systems.
During the Xi’an visit, the Brunei delegation observed advanced technologies such as Case Management and Traffic Control Systems and toured the Xi’an Drug Control Education Base to learn about innovative approaches to combating drug abuse.
The forum’s opening ceremony at the Haizhou Bayview Conference Centre featured keynote addresses by State Councillor and Minister of Public Security of China Wang Xiaohong; President of INTERPOL Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi; and UN Under-Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
