BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Team PanicInString from Indonesia emerged as the champion of the Cyber Battle: Capture the Flag competition Monday (Sept 15), walking away with a BND3,500 (US$2,732) prize.
Team Phish x 3 from Brunei secured second place with a prize of BND2,500 while Team (3MPVI) from Brunei claimed third place and received BND1,500.
The competition was hosted by ITPSS Sdn Bhd (ITPSS) in conjunction with CySec2025 – Cybersecurity Conference and Exhibition 2025 co-hosted by Cyber Security Brunei (CSB) and Brunei Cybersecurity Association (BCSA).
Interim Commissioner of Cyber Security Brunei (CSB) Shamsul Bahri Kamis presented the prizes to the recipients.
ITPSS Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Azman Iskandar Ariffin acknowledged the significance of the competition in developing practical cybersecurity skills and fostering a culture of continuous learning within Brunei’s cybersecurity community.
He shared, “This year marks the 10th year ITPSS is hosting the cyber battle since its inauguration in 2015. For the first time we opened up the competition to our fellow cyber communities from our Asean countries. Representative teams from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar and Thailand accepted the challenge to compete for the grand prizes against 10 local teams participating in the event.”
He added, ”In today’s interconnected and technology driven landscape, cybersecurity has become paramount. The ever-evolving threats and challenges in cyberspace necessitate continuous learning, innovation and collaboration. We recognise that no single entity can address these challenges alone and that’s why we need the best and brightest cybersecurity professional talents to outthink and outsmart these adversaries.
He said, “However, we still face a significant and growing gap between the demand for local cybersecurity talent and the available supply. This is not merely a recruitment challenge; it is also a national security imperative.” - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
