Bridge partially collapses on old Yangon–Mandalay road in Oak Twin Township


YANGON: On the afternoon of September 15, part of a bridge on the old Yangon–Mandalay Road near Nyaung Chay Htauk town, south of Oak Twin Township in Taungoo District, Bago Region, collapsed, according to reports.

The bridge is located between Nyaung Chay Htauk town and Obo Kone village, and the left side of the bridge (from the Yangon approach) gave way.

Regarding the incident, the chairman of the Sin Phyu Taw Social Aid Association said: “A brother from Taungoo was on his way back after sending a patient. There was a Probox car in front of him, which was slightly damaged. Thankfully, no people were injured. About 50 minutes ago, the right side collapsed on the Phyu-bound lane from Taungoo.” He gave this update around 4 p.m. on September 15.

Warnings were also posted on social media urging travelers to take caution:

“Since one side of the bridge between Nyaung Chay Htauk town and Obo Kone village on the old Yangon–Mandalay Road has collapsed, drivers are advised to proceed carefully.”

Currently, vehicles continue to use the remaining intact side of the bridge. - Eleven Media/ANN
