Cambodia bans contents offensive to nation's culture, tradition, women's dignity

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia on Thursday (April 2) prohibited the production, broadcasting, and distribution of any content that affects the nation's culture, tradition, customs, and women's honor and dignity.

An instruction, jointly issued by the Ministry of Information, Women's Affairs, and Culture and Fine Arts, said some content creators have produced, broadcast, and distributed content that used obscene language and immoral behavior, and displayed women's indecent and erotic images to attract viewers for their own interests or to sell their products.

"These actions have seriously affected Cambodian culture, tradition, and social morality," the instruction said.

"The production, broadcasting and distribution of these contents have a negative impact on the honour and dignity of the Cambodian women, and the nation's beautiful culture, tradition and custom, which have been preserved and upheld by our ancestors since ancient times."

It said that violators will face strict legal action. - Xinhua
