VIENTIANE: The Lao government has emphasised education as a key priority in human resource development, continuing its efforts to address educational challenges and promote access to quality and equitable education for urban and rural areas.
In his speech marking the International Literacy Day, which falls on Sept. 8, Lao Minister of Education and Sports Thongsalith Mangnomek said that despite progress, many people in remote areas and disadvantaged communities still face significant barriers to accessing quality education.
The country will continue to grapple with a shortage of teachers, high dropout rates and limited resources, all of which are further exacerbated by economic challenges and natural disasters, according to the ministry on Wednesday (Sept 10).
Recognising education as a top priority, the government was working to ensure that it is accessible to all citizens, particularly those in rural areas, as well as vulnerable groups including the poor, women, ethnic minorities and people with disabilities. - Xinhua
